FairMail photography program

Introduction

FairMail is a company producing fair trade greeting cards with photos made in Peru and India.

The photos on FairMail cards are taken by underprivileged Indian and Peruvian teenagers. FairMail offers them photography training, part-time work, medical insurance and guidance in making their future plans.

The teenagers get 50 % of the profits of the sale of their own cards to finance their housing and education.

FairMail has 2 volunteers vacancies all year through, in India as well as in Peru. As a volunteer you give photography- and creativity training to the group of 10 FairMail teenagers.

Working hours are about 25 hours a week during 5 days and the minimum period is 8 weeks.

Apart from the long term volunteering of at least 8 weeks we offer a short program as well for travellers with an interest in photography and working with teenagers: FairMail photography trips.

FairMail photography trips are:

*Adventurous two-week group travels to authentic and hardly visited destinations in Northern Peru & India.

*Special because you travel with Peruvian and Indianlocals (the FairMail teenagers) with whom you seek for photographs of authentic local beauty.

*Meant for adventurous travellers with interest in photography, alternative tourism and of course in FairMail.

Besides a maximum of 6 foreign travellers, 5 FairMail teenagers join the group, guided by an English speaking guide, a photography instructor and the Peruvian coordinator of FairMail Peru. Before and after the photography excursion it is possible to extend your stay in Peru with visits to other sites or by volunteering at local projects (see www.otracosa.info) in Huanchaco, Peru.
