Types of Projects

All project placements are currently located in and around Siem Reap, Cambodia, where Interweave is based. Your placement will be influenced by your skills, education, experiences and preferences as well as accounting to the need of the projects at the time. All current placements are within the education sector.

Locations

Cambodia is a challenging yet incredibly rewarding country to live and work in. A country where 80% of the population lives in the countryside; where most still lead a hand-to-mouth subsistence living; where there is still illiteracy through lack of resources and where job prospects are slim.

Timeline

The minimum time for volunteering in Cambodia for all programme participants is 8 weeks, but Interweave stresses that a minimum of 12 weeks is preferred where possible. We believe that it takes volunteers in Cambodia at least one month to acclimatise, getting to know the people they work with and understand their own role within a Cambodian organization. At the same time, hosting a volunteer creates a certain amount of work for the host organization. A minimum commitment of 8 weeks therefore allows volunteers to make a positive contribution and the host organization to benefit.

All programme participants attend a three-day arrival orientation before volunteering.

Accommodations

All volunteers stay at 'Thida's House - Community Housing for Volunteers' for the duration of the orientation and the entire placement. 'Thida's House - Community Housing for Volunteers' was created by Interweave in 2008 and holds the middle between guesthouse and home stay accommodation.

Prerequisites

- At least 18 years old.

- Fluent English with clear pronunciation.

- Previous travel experience essential.

- Previous experience of living and working overseas preferred.

- Flexible, adaptable individuals who are willing to work hard and accept that conditions in Cambodia are not as safe, secure or comfortable as in their home country.

Costs

From US$ 1,440 for 8 weeks (prices are subject to change). This fee includes: Pre-departure assistance, airport pick-up, volunteer placement, accommodation including daily breakfast and bicycle, three-day arrival orientation, on-going support from Interweave, financial support to placement.
