Children's Health & Social Care in Rural Nepal

With

people and places

Project Description

In the foothills of the Himalayas is the village of Shermathang. The previous health centre, together with the school, was forcibly closed during the Maoist conflict. The School was re-opened in 2009, and cares for 150 children-40 of whom are boarders  in the school's very basic accommodation. The community recognises that the children will benefit from basic healthcare provision, and is currently working with Dhulikhel Hospital to open an official  health centre - volunteer input will be valuable and valued.

The staff  and village women are dedicated to the wellbeing of the children in their care, but have had little or no healthcare training. Volunteers will work with these local people to share essential healthcare skills for the village. This will be very much a hands-on role - volunteers will need to have the ability to share simple but life-saving knowledge and techniques.
