Travel to Tanzania for 2 Weeks to Help Schools with Technology

Join our team going to Tanzania and put your technology skills to work to help schools in Tanzania. We are looking for folks who know how to use the internet in the classroom, know networking, hardware troubleshooting, website development, recycling of computers, and training. This team of 5 eCorps volunteers is scheduled for August 3 - August 18, 2012.

 The trip will begin with two days at Atiman House of the White Fathers for rest, site-seeing, meeting with interested groups and orientation in Dar es Salaam .  After this, the team will take the bus to Moshi and begin work for eleven days in more rural settings. The team will assist WCE Partner organisations that have already received WCE computers and plan to receive additional computers from WCE.  Volunteers need to speak English and be at least 21 years of age.  This trip will again be led by Walter (Gene) Vinson. Gene has led two previous WCE eCorps tech team to Tanzania.

Timeline

·         Friday August 3rd: Travel from your country to Dar es Salaam

·         Saturday:  Arrival and rest and informal dinner with other team members in Dar es Salaam

·         Sunday: Orientation, meeting with interested groups, and informal site seeing in Dar es Salaam

·         Monday: bus travel to first work site

·         Tuesday and Wednesday:  work at 1st school, train teachers, and meet with interested groups

·         Thursday and Friday:  work at 2nd school, train teachers, and meet with interested groups

·         Saturday and Sunday:  informal site seeing in area between school 2 and 3

·         Monday and Tuesday:  work at 3rd school, train teachers, and meet with interested groups

·         Wednesday and Thursday:  work at final school, train teachers, meet with groups, farewell dinner

·         Friday:  travel back to Dar es Salaam

·         Saturday August 18th: Return travel to your country

Accommodations

·    Local lodging houses costing approximately $25  per night.

Cost

Estimated Costs:  $3,000.

WCE will help in getting the lowest cost flight from your country. 

To help you with the costs of your trip, we can provide you with a fund raising letter and tax-deductible receipts for donors from the USA or Canada. 

If you prefer, all of your costs can be covered through a donation to WCE.  This is tax-deductible in Canada and the USA. 

WCE will provide you with a tax receipt for the above costs.

This Cost Covers...

Estimated Costs:  $3,000.

  • Round trip airfare between Boston (sample city) and Dar es Salaam is approximately $1,675.  Check on airfare from your country - WCE can help you with finding low cost fares.
  • WCE Coordination: $500 ($250 if you live in Africa)
  • Business Visa: $100 (you may need to get this from an Embassy of Tanzania prior to your departure)
  • Travel / Medical Evacuation Insurance: $100
  • Immunizations: $75 (if you need them)
  • Site-seeing :  $100
  • Transportation to your work sites:  $100
  • Lodging and Breakfast/Dinner you pay at sites for 14 nights: $25 x 14 = $350
