Volunteer in China

Project Description:

Plan My Gap Year (PMGY) is an award-winning international volunteer placement organisation based in the UK. We provide the worlds most affordable, need-driven and supportive short-term volunteer programmes in Africa, Asia and Latin America. Our programmes start from just two weeks in duration right up to six months. You can volunteer abroad throughout the year as we have two start dates per month.

PMGY was founded by volunteers for volunteers. We are an independent social venture, not a corporate machine. Our volunteers become part of something really special. We work together with local communities in the developing world to actualise long-term sustainable goals. We recognise that travel can be meaningful, everyone has something to give and that we can make a positive impact.

Volunteer in China with Plan My Gap Year and make a difference with your time in China. We offer the following programmes:

Disabled Care Volunteering in China

Teach English in China

Childcare Volunteer in China

We place volunteers in the following locations: Shanghai, Zheng Zhou, Shanghai Island and Suzhou.

You can find more information on our international volunteer programmes on our website www.planmygapyear.co.uk

Timeline:

Our programmes start on the 1st and 3rd Monday of each month. You can volunteer from two weeks up to three months.

PMGY volunteers come from all walks of life. We welcome volunteers from all over the world to join us. The diverse age range, nationalities and backgrounds of our volunteers always provide a fun and lively atmosphere! Our projects are well supported. We place over 1,000 volunteers around the world every year so no matter where you go or what time of year you’re guaranteed to meet plenty of likeminded international volunteers. Plus evenings and weekend are free so you have the opportunity to travel with your fellow volunteers. Our in-country staff are there to support you 24/7 and can assist you with your travel plans.

Accommodations:

Volunteer Apartment

All volunteers spend their first two nights in China at one of our volunteer apartment in Shanghai. We have two apartments that are located in the next building to our local teams head office. At the apartment, you will share a room with fellow volunteers of the same sex, usually 6 people per room – each room has bunk beds. The apartment has Wi-Fi and a communal computer for volunteers to use. Bathrooms have western toilets and hot water showers. There are separate bathrooms for male and female volunteers.

Each apartment has a lounge area with TV and DVD player (plus plenty of DVD’s) if you want to chill out in the evening. There is also a kitchen room and dining room. Volunteers also have free use of the buildings gym facilities, tennis courts and swimming people (please note the swimming pool is only open in the summer months).

Project residence

The majority of placements have live-in accommodation for our volunteers, although you may be required to stay at the volunteer apartment during your placement period. If you are living at the project site, you will have your own room or share with a fellow volunteer. You will have your own bathroom (western toilet and hot shower), internet access, kitchen facilities and in most cases you will also have a TV. Where possible we always place volunteers together at the project site. If the school can take only one volunteer at a time, we will ensure there are other volunteers in the same area as you so you can meet up in your free time.
